WoW: No Faun as an Allied Nation for Shadowlands after all?

The mystical Ardenwald is the seat of the Winter Queen, who leads the no less mysterious Nachtfae in WoW: Shadowlands. This sworn group consists mainly of the Faun people and many other creatures that guard the eternal peace of the sleeping forest. The delicate Faun have adapted perfectly to the flora and fauna of their homeland, and their appearance reflects the fragile beauty of Ardenwald. Their eyes and horns glow a cool blue-purple and their clothing is reminiscent of the design of the magical trees of the forest.

Although WoW: Shadowlands has not yet been released, numerous players are already speculating about the next ally races

that

Blizzard might bring to Azeroth in the next expansion. In addition to the angelic Kyrians and the eerie Venthyr, the Faun of the Night Fae are also being talked about as possible candidates for future Allied Races. Although they share their model with the female Draenei, the Faun have an original appearance and unique animations.

The fact that these were also recently discovered as hero models in the WoW data further fueled the rumor mill surrounding the possibly soon playable Faun. Unlike the Kyrians, the Faun can currently be dressed in various robes and armor, including those of the Pacts. Nevertheless, Blizzard's staff once warned in a Bluepost not to immediately consider the found data as facts. As a reminder, in response to numerous inquiries from WoW fans about the Allied races, community manager Onyx responded as follows at the time:

"As we mentioned when race information for Lightforged Draenei and Void Elves was datamined during development of Patch 7.3, we've found that setting up certain races as though they were player characters can be highly advantageous for NPC customization in story content. While those races did become Allied Races later, we still intend to use this approach for non-playable races.

Please don't take a race being datamined in this way as an indication that it will become playable in the future! :) "

So no Faun for Horde or Alliance after all? Not quite. After all, the developers have claimed something similar for the Vulpera. However, the cute foxes did ally themselves with the Horde in the final phase of Battle for Azeroth. Blizzard's team also emphasizes that the respective new allies can only be considered as heroes if the race fits the big story of World of Warcraft (buy now 14,99 € ). Some races simply don't make sense as playable characters because they don't fit into the WoW setting either in terms of lore or gameplay.

So in the case of the fauns and co. it's once again "wait and see". The collected data at least indicates that the developers have the technical possibility to make playable heroes out of the fauns. Whether they do so already in WoW: Shadowlands or later is written in the stars.
