WoW: Shadowlands even brings Ghostcrawler back to Azeroth

Most veteran WoW players will be familiar with the name Ghostcrawler. This nickname is Greg Street, former developer and lead system designer at Blizzard. However, the biology graduate became most famous for tearing down the invisible wall between developers and players and actively campaigning for better communication. During the Wrath of the Lich King beta, he discussed at length with players in the forums and used social media such as Twitter to provide WoW fans with background information instead of leaving them alone with dry patch notes. But Ghostcrawler now works at Riot Games, where he holds the title of "Vice President of Intellectual Property and Entertainment" after working on League of Legends.

And now Ghostcrawler returns to WoW (buy now 14,99 € ) after six years of abstinence. However, not as a developer, as some might hope, but as a player. And he explains to us not only why he stopped playing WoW so abruptly, but also why he's coming back now - and why he won't be joining his favorite faction.

So Ghostcrawler returns as an Alliance paladin. While he prefers the Horde, his friends play on the Alliance side. He chooses the Paladin so that he can also roam as a tank or healer, should that role be needed.

In addition to his friends, he cites three other reasons for returning to WoW. First, Shadowlands looks fantastic, and second, enough time has passed in the meantime. He needed a clear cut after his end at Blizzard. He didn't want to constantly see what happens to WoW after he's gone and compares it a bit to snooping on your ex. Last but not least, he doesn't want to be left out when all his friends are back adventuring under the Azeroth sun (or rather the Shadowlands).

However, he also makes it clear that he is only coming back as a player and will have nothing to do with development. He is very happy at Riot Games, he says.
