WoW: Sylvanas aka Patty Mattson sings "Lamentations of the Highborn

The renowned and extremely talented musician Jay The Bard, in collaboration with Patty Mattson (also known as the voice of Sylvanas Windrunner), created the most beautiful version of "Lamentations of the Highborn" to date. This lament is sung by Sylvanas in Undercity as a distant reminder of her long-suffering people and the fall of her homeland, Quel'Thalas. The melancholy melody of "Lamentations of the Highborn" has been one of the most iconic pieces of music in World of Warcraft since The Burning Crusade.

Jay the Bard

was the winner of the 2017 "BlizzCon Talent Contest" and the creator of "World of Snythcraft," an album of eleven legendary songs from Warcraft history. Blizzard immortalized Jay after his win as a bard in Boralus (you can see said cultiran bard in the video).

Patty Mattson is best known to us as the eerily beautiful voice of Sylvanas Windrunner, and has been a guest on the BlizzCon voice acting panel several times. What many WoW fans don't know, however: Mattson is not only a voice actress, but also a talented singer and songwriter. Here follows the latest musical masterpiece from Jay the Bard and Patty Mattson:

For the first time, "Lamentations of the Highborn" rang out in The Burning Crusade. Sylvanas sings the dirge to this day when a Horde hero returns her precious gem to the Banshee King via The Necklace of the Princess quest. In Wrath of the Lich King, the developers wrapped the melody in Sylvanas' toy music box

. The toy was very precious for a long time, because you had to complete a forever-long quest line in Icecrown Citadel to get it, and it wasn't available to every class.

Incidentally, the original song was composed by Derek Duke and Russell Brower and sung by Vangie Gunn. This song and tune punctuated countless machinimas, and in 2019, Patty Mattson even sang her own unofficial cover of "Lamentations of the Highborn."
