WoW: Exchange time of purchased items now also expires offline

To ease the workload of the completely overburdened Game Masters, Blizzard introduced a long, long time ago in WoW that you can return items purchased from the merchant, or items assigned by the Loot Master, to the merchant, or pass them on to other eligible players. However, this only applies for a period of two hours after you have received or purchased the item. This should be sufficient in most cases. With the pre-patch for Shadowlands, which has been on the live server for a few days, Blizzard has changed something here.

WoW: Exchange time of purchased items now also expires offline (1) Source: buffed The two hours you have to return an item purchased from a retailer will now expire even if you are offline. Previously, this time was paused as soon as you logged out. So if you were back in the game after a few hours, you could still return the item or continue trading. This is no longer possible.

Interestingly, the developers have only changed items that you buy from the merchant. Items that you capture can still be passed on for two hours, but the offline time does not count. Why Blizzard only adjusted the one time period, but not the other, or if that will possibly still come, remains unclear at the moment. There is also no confirmed information about the actual reason for the adjustment.
