Update July 6,
The Battle for Azeroth leaves many questions unanswered about Sylvanas, and with the death of N'Zoth in Patch 8.3, there is a lot of story to cover as we transition from the Old Gods back to the Realm of Death. "Shadows Rising" acts as a prequel to Shadowlands, where we learn more about the next steps of Sylvanas, the Alliance, and the Horde. Blizzard has now announced that "Shadows Rising" will also be available in audiobook format and will be released on the same day as the regular release on July 14 (see the original announcement below). The audiobook will be voiced by Susan Wokoma, a British actress and writer known for portraying the popular character Queen Talanji in Battle for Azeroth. The audio book will cost around 20 Euros, but is currently not listed on Amazon. We will post an update as soon as there is any news.
Original news
The mystical Shadowlands of World of Warcraft are the focus of the next WoW expansion. In the afterlife, the dangerous shadow of doubt and mistrust is haunting the world, as the eternal cycle of life and death is destroyed. None other than Sylvanas Windrunner, who once led the Forsaken and the Horde, is tearing down the veil between the world of the living and the dead, unleashing a mysterious force that thirsts for the souls of all mortals.
The story of Shadowlands sounds promising. But what happens in the time between the end of the Fourth War and Sylvanas' visit to Icecrown Citadel? How did the Banshee Queen escape her captors? And what order did she give to her handlers Nathanos Plaguecaller and Sira Moonguard? Blizzard answers these and many other questions, including the mission of Alleria and Turalyon, in the new novella Shadows Rising
.The novel, which solves many mysteries of Battle for Azeroth, will be released on July 14, 2020. However, this is the English edition. Fans of the German language will probably have to wait several weeks or even months until the release of the translated version of the book. However, the chances are good that the German edition will be released before the launch of WoW (buy now 14,99 € ): Shadowlands will be released. You can already pre-order the original English version on Amazon today:
- Kindle edition (English) - 10,47 Euro
- Hardcover book (English) - 25,95 Euro
The cover of the novel is not yet fixed. A surprise for us is that Madeleine Roux has written the novella instead of Christie Golden (Blizzard actually announced Golden as the main story author). The new author previously only shined with the World of Warcraft: Traveler series.
Here's the official synopsis of the story on the back cover:
"The Horde is nothing!" With those infamous words, Sylvanas Windrunner betrayed and abandoned the Horde she vowed to serve. The Dark Lady and her forces now work in the shadows as both the Horde and Alliance race to uncover her next move, including her own sister, Alleria. Struggling to shoulder the crushing weight of leadership, King Anduin entrusts the void elf and High Exarch Turalyon to uncover Sylvanas's whereabouts.
The Horde now stands at a crossroads. The various factions form a council, leaving the mantle of warchief to rest. Thrall, Lor'themar Theron, Baine Bloodhoof, First Arcanist Thalyssra, and many other familiar faces rise to this new challenge. But the threats are numerous, and the distrust runs too deep.
When the council is derailed by a failed assassination attempt on Talanji, the Zandalari queen and a key ally, Thrall and the rest of the Horde leaders are forced into action. They empower the young troll shaman Zekhan, still grieving the loss of Varok Saurfang, with a critical mission to aid Talanji and help uncover the rising threat against her.
Meanwhile, Nathanos Blightcaller and Sira Moonwarden have been tasked by the Dark Lady with a terrifying gambit: to kill the troll loa of death himself, Bwonsamdi
.As Zekhan and Talanji work to save Bwonsamdi, their journey will be a key turning point in bolstering the Horde against the coming darkness and finding themselves along the way. Failure to save their allies and the trickster god will surely doom the Horde, but through success, they may rediscover what makes the Horde strong. "
Another excerpt from the novel has also been published on the English WoW site. As soon as Blizzard puts a translated update online on the German site, we will update this message for you.
