WoW Classic: Naxxramas and Scourge Invasion - starting at this time

When patch 1.13.6 is released for WoW Classic on December 1, 2020, many players will be waiting in anticipation for the opening of the new old Naxxramas raid. The WoW developers have now revealed when exactly the Scourge Stronghold will be open for the heroes of Azeroth and when the Scourge Invasion will begin: It will start two days after the patch release, more precisely on December 03, 2020 at 11 pm German time.

The WoW developers explain the details of the event and the changes to the original version in a bluepost::

"Patch 1.13.6 for WoW Classic (buy now 24,99 € ) will be released on December 2. Directly after that, on December 3 at 23:00 CET, we will open Naxxramas and launch the Scourge Invasion.

The Scourge invasions starting next week in WoW Classic have been adapted and therefore differ in some details from the original WoW in 2006, you can find the details here.

Original WoW

On June 20, 2006, the Scourge Invasion began with special dungeon bosses, vendors, quests, and a series of undead invasion events in the open world. These invasion events took place in three phases. Necrotic Shards appeared in each zone that was attacked. They were surrounded by undead enemies that had to be defeated first before the shard could be destroyed. This allowed Necrotic Runes to be captured, which were needed for quests and as currency to purchase Consecrated Whetstones and Blessed Spell Oil.

The phases progressed separately on each realm. The first phase ended after defending 50 zones, the second after 100, and the third after 150. After the end of each phase, each player on the corresponding realm could talk to NPCs in the main cities to receive a limited recharge item that granted a small scaling stamina bonus for one hour. Once a total of 150 zones were defended, the invasion portion of the event ended.

The other content of the Scourge Invasion event (special dungeon bosses, vendors, quest NPCs) will disappear after three weeks regardless of the number of zones defended.

WoW Classic

In WoW Classic, there are significantly more long-term content players on each realm, and they also know a lot more than they did back then to optimize their gameplay. Therefore, it seems necessary to us to make some changes to this event. We calculated that some realms could finish the invasion part after less than five days. So our main goal is to give players more time to participate so they don't have time pressure.

  • The number of zones required to complete each phase has been increased to 100/200/300.The phase with special dungeon bosses, vendors, and quest givers has been extended from three weeks to four weeks, ending on December 31.An additional one-week phase has been added, beginning on each realm after 300 zones have been defended. Invasions will continue to take place during this additional week to give players one last chance to participate and earn rewards. This additional week will end no later than December 31.

These simple but effective adjustments will make it easier for players to enjoy Naxxramas while experiencing the content of this unique event without stress.

Thank you for your attention. We look forward to seeing you in Naxxramas on December 3 at 23:00 CET!"
